Objective of the commission

The Institute of Geography has a Commission for Equal Opportunities and pursues the following targets:

  • Knowledge of the strategy for equal opportunities of the University and the Faculty and the corresponding objectives and measures
  • Implementation of the strategy for equal opportunities of the Faculty and the corresponding measures at the Institute
  • Development of specific additional objectives and measures at the Institute

Proportions of female and male students and researchers at the University of Berne (2018) Institute of Geography and Faculty of Science: The ratio of female students is very high whereas it decreases drastically on the following levels. The difference in ratio is particularly large for lecturers as well as assistant professors. The literature defines this phenomena as “leaky pipeline”.
