I work in collaboration with the radar division of MeteoSwiss. Further, my work is part of the Synergia Project scClim (Seamless coupling of kilometre-resolution weather predictions and climate simulations with hail impact assessments for multiple sectors) funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. Within scClim, I use radar-based hail observations in combination with crowdsourced hail reports and hail-sensor measurements to validate the hail forecasting ability of the used numerical weather prediction models.

Currently, I am investigating the hail nowcasting potential of Differential Reflectivity columns. In the near future, I will further look into the potential of using machine-learning-based techniques on polarimetric radar data for the detection of hail.

My research focus is on improving the radar-based detection and sizing of hail in Switzerland. I am using dual-polarimetric radar data from the C-band weather radar network operated by MeteoSwiss to investigate multiple approaches for indirect hail detection and sizing.
