It is estimated that the number of people affected by urban flooding due to environmental change and demographic pressure will increase dramatically to reach several million people in sub-Saharan Africa in the next four decades. In recent years, large-scale flood adaptation programmes have been implemented by national and international agencies in the most exposed areas to improve the resilience of vulnerable urban people. The “Living with water” transdisciplinary research project is a research consortium funded by the UK Department for international development (DFID) through the Building Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Extremes and Disasters (BRACED) programme. The main objective is to develop a transdisciplinary Flood Resilience and Governance Framework (FRaGF) to adequately evaluated the impacts of flood adaptation programmes on the resilience of urban dwellers’ in Dakar, Senegal and to support collective action and decision-making in the light of recent flood adaptation policies. The research will be concluded at the end of 2017.
