Exploring the Knowledge Dynamics Associated with Forest Management for Climate Change Adaptation in South Africa

Forest Management South Africa

Forests are critical for climate policy agenda with respect to actions for climate change adaptation and mitigation. Although most African countries’ climate policies contain mandates for forest based climate change interventions, they do not provide regulations to guide adjustment in management strategies to support the implementation of forest based climate change interventions. Adjustment in forest management to support climate interventions will be impractical without access to tailored climate information. Nevertheless, climate information is a complex crosscutting process that involve collaboration among inter and multidisciplinary actors working across different governance scale. We conceptualised a climate knowledge system and use it to to undertake a network analysis of the organizations working in the intersection of climate change and forest management.

The aim is to understand how climate information flows among these stakeholders, and tease out the barriers and enablers of climate forecasts translation and tailoring to enhance the usability of climate information in forest management with respect to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
