PhD Project

What does it mean if we extend the idea of the commons to include labour and our working arrangements?

As a PhD student at the University of Bern I'm interested in how workers self-define their place of work and how they would re-arrange and organise care labour if they are in charge of making the decisions in their workplaces - what if health-care workers are "reclaiming control over the conditions of our reproduction"?

By this I'm investigating worker-led cooperatives and 'alternative' working arrangements (such as Buurtzorg) in the sector that are focused on autogestion or worker self-management on the way for a potentially just and sustainable way of providing health-care.

Working title: Reclaiming Work and Care as Commons: Investigating the Role of Cooperatives, Autonomous Management, and Labour Agency for a just and sustainable Health-Care Sector.

As part of the research project Healthcare unbound: A transnational perspective on the future of the world of work in health care
