We study water fluxes at different spatial and temporal scales. Analyses include both field measurements and long-term model simulations. We focus on the role of water as a vital, life-sustaining resource, as well as an element with devastating consequences. Inter- and transdisciplinary research approaches are needed to address the centrality of water in the ecosystem, as well as to provide solutions to real-life challenges.
